setting up with the meter as you did your not over drive speakers.
I think the potential is there since the speakers are rated for 50W/ch. RMS and the amp is putting out >125W/ch. RMS.
The thing on the bass boost is ok if its your taste. But generally MOST will over drive with bass boost and its not really true sound. 12 is good for 30 amps? The more you ask of the amp in way of bass boost = heat. But we are learning that on these bikes bass boost is used often even I am using it on the bike.
I've got to go back into the area again to find out why my LED panel (neutral, high-beam, etc.) isn't working. I guess I pulled something loose today, as it was working yesterday. When I do I'll also put bass boost back to just above zero, as a ride revealed some minor distortion. I think the speakers just aren't up to the task, but the setup is better than what I had without the amp.

It sounded okay in the garage, but on the road it had some distortion at my max listening level with some music. I set it back down to a bit above zero and will think about replacing the speakers as a way to increase bass.
12 is good for 30 amps?
A tech friend told me that, and the installer at a local car-stereo shop said 12 ga. was okay for the amp I'm using if the run is only 4-5'. He did say that he would be more comfortable with 10 ga. in that environment, but that if the wire didn't get hot I was okay. It doesn't, but the amp warms up after a short time of playing.
I did some searching and the answer apparently isn't cut-and-dried, as it depends on the insulation. It can handle 40A in free air, and 30A if the insulation is rated for 90°C. This wire has 80°C insulation, and according to one chart that would make it good for 27A. I can't imagine this amp pulling anywhere near this amount at the volume levels I use.

Are you using the boost on the head unit or the amp?
The only way you guys are going to get bass at 80 mph is to build a capsule around your bike. Sorry but that's just the way it is.
Yup..What he said.
As I said, I have the ELF with 6.5" Hertz HCX's
Here is my .02. I had that frikken fairing off so many times trying to get the right balance of power with no distortion & trying to get a nice sound. Here is what i settled with (and after reading in here , so did a lot of other guys too)
Gain - between the "a" and "i" in the word gain on both left & right - ZERO Bass boost - Crossover on high and the cut-off about 100 or so. When I say I tried every combo, I really did - this has been the best for me and the amp does not shut down & I have no distortion as well as nice clean music at 80mph, My club brothers will attest to it, they can hear it too..lol
It really is about the right speakers too . I had a few different ones in there - The Hertz are REALLY nice, they can handle the power & then some. Good luck
speaker change? I will tell you that I added new speakers to my street glide and I was BLOWN away! I added Shockwave speakers (2-6x9, 2-6.5, 2-2in tweeters) I will tell you that I'm VERY impressed with the shockwave speakers although most wont like the price! They are on ebay check them out! Not cheap, but great on performance and completely weather proof!

I'm considering the Biketronics 6˝" speaker kit (BT451) which apparently contain the Hertz HCX's, and Eastern Performance Cycles has a good deal on these ($230 shipped on Ebay). The kit also includes the adapter and grills. Where did you buy yours, and are you aware of a better price?

I don't , I got mine from a club brother who was selling his bagger - He got em off ebay - BUT, your price with everything is a real GOOD price.
