Hey folks, I have a 2010 Ultra Limited, whenever I plug in the GPS to the cigarette lighter in the fairing I blow a fuse, it takes about 10-15 minutes and the cigarette lighter itself works without blowing the fuse. The GPS works on the aux port in the tour pack, no problem there, has anyone else experienced this?
the dealer said that it checks out, it's very inconvient to run the cord for the GPS all the way back to the truck...and my 09 electraglide worked fine.
any input would be appreciated!
On my 08 Ultra, it blew the fuse in the GPS power cord. I checked the lighter plug and found that the hot wire was hooked up to the outside and the ground was hooked up to the center. I just switched the wires around and it works just fine. Check your plug and see where the hot wire is hooked up.
This has been posted many times so your not alone. So I am repeating what I have read I never had the problem.
1- check polarity on cig lighter.
2- replace cig socket with better one.
Cig lighter draws much more current..
I bought a hd power outlet, not lighter, and it was pre wired backwards. Backwards compared to every other one in the U.S...
+ on the shell, - on the center button.
Lighters don't care what the polarity is.. Lots of other things do. Do yourself a favor and switch the wires if they're Bass Ackwards.
Lighter sockets are a little larger diameter.
Some or all non lighter sockets can't handle the current and/or heat.

I had the same issue during the Run To The Wall over Memorial Day Weekend. Blew the accessory fuse twice! I posted a question about the problem but didn't get any good replies. I searched this forum and some others with little luck. I did learn than an angle plug is better than as straight plug into the cigarette lighter as the plug can contact the the frame when the wheel is turned sharp. I have no problem with the GPS in my Ranger truck. Bike's cigarette lighter works like a champ, always heats up. Conclusion: Lighter socket is not meant to be used as a power outlet. I bought a power outlet with a 15A fuse, hooked it to the battery, ran the wire under the tank and have it in front of the tank. Haven't come up with a good way to mount it but I will. I have had the GPS plugged into my power port with no issues since.
Some of my lighter powered stuff from years ago came with a sleeve that shimmed the plug so it would fit better in the larger socket. If not used the power would be sporatic from the loose fit. Aside from power being intermittent, you should never blow fuses.
