Welcome to the Forums, there is an Evo forum, which may be better for 1st hand advice. Many riders here are "Twin Cam Era" and not all that familiar with the Evos.
I have an 88 FXRP and sold my 1995 ElectraGlide Classic a year ago for an 09.
The 95 is a nice solid machine, mine went over 80,000 trouble free miles- and the new owner loves her.
Yah 95-96 same parts, only thing that I would suggest is you might want to change out the lifters. Not saying hours will fail but a good number of them did and right around 30-35000. Some guys got over 70000 miles with mo problems so it's gamble. Harley changed them in 97 so there has to be a reason. You don't want to have one come apart on you believe me just upgrade and you should be fine with no worries.
winterizing question
picked up RK on Saturday,I don't know what oil prev.owner was running Reg /semi/synthetic I',m a little low on kickstand (cold mark)and oil is dark .I'm concerned about adding oil to exsisting oil.not knowing which But want to run to get stabil in tank and carb.?
should I change oil now ,before storeing for 3-4 months or wait till spring
I have the same bike with 60k on it. I bought it with 55k on it and have not had any problems other than a cpl small oil leaks. I love the bike and as long as u don't mind doing alittle work on it some times I would get it. Get the manual to have around the house. And ride the crap out of it.
You've put only 5,000 miles on it and you have had two oil leaks? Are you sure that's not an old panhead???

If you're going to shut it down anyway, I wouldn't worry about it. Adding syn to dino oil won't cause any issues. Most advertised synthetics are a blend of synthetic and dino anyway. You'll know full synthetic by the price. When you say to yourself, "holy crap", that's full synthetic.
I rode a '95 RoadKing for 80,000 miles, and it was still running strong when I sold it They are solid machines with only 1 real weakness. You need to insure that the cam bearing has been updated to a Torrington roller bearing instead of the stock cage bearing.
When you update the bearing, it is the perfect time to upgrade the cam to an Andrews EV13. The 80 inch with an EV13, a screaming eagle intake, a little carb work, and some pipes, and you will have a bike that runs better than a stock 88, and will get pretty close to a stock 96.
You should be able to do all of this for around 800.
I bought full 100% synthetic ,chromed filter ,o-ring $74 @ my local HD shop.
(non dealership)
I will feel better about,Knowing from the start,I did the rite thing.going with the synthetic,I was told that switching from syn.to dino,will/could cause smoking from buildup ,I know there is atleast 30,000 on bike and I don't have any real history on it ,It's a new to me bike.and want to do whats best.
I will change primary and trans in spring,But want to get old oil out before bike sitting for 3-4 months
any advise will be appreciated, I only owned shovelheads in the past.
THX Tom
Why put expensive synthetic oil in the machine when it's just going to sit? The oil isn't going to do anything but sit in the oil tank. And then you'll probably want to change it out come spring when you do the other two holes.
If you must, just put some dino oil in there, run it for a little bit, then let it sit. Use the expensive synthetic in the spring when you change the rest of it.
That was my thinking too,But 3 HD Mechanics say that any metal particles,or solids will stick to engine parts, left sitting in old oil.
I 'm probly way over reacting, concerned about this ,But It's my new toy !!
and to spend $74 now, instead of replacing rings or worse in spring,
Again,I don,t know how long oil has been in motor,
1st thing ,I have always done ,when I bought a used vehicle is change the oil
