I am riding a 2005 Road king mostly solo and I am having issues with my back that I have not had before riding. I weight 230 and 6' tall. What is a good pressure setting for my rear shocks.
I am the same size as you, I have played with air pressures and found 15PSI to give me the best ride.
If you dot already have one, buy yourself a shock pump, and start playing around with different pressures. even a couple of pounds makes a noticeable difference.
Therein lies your problems with your back. Try a set of Heritage bars or Wild Ones 518's or something along those lines and a Sundowner seat. Heritage bars are fairly cheap and don't require cable changes. Sundowner will run you about $300ish and you can get it in the road king styling.
My 2000 era shocks wore out and I found a pair on EBay that were the new 09 and later style. Big improvement over the older shocks such as yours and mine.
They're cheap, ( $60 or so ) because so many guys are looking for the shorter shocks. The longer ones are easy to find. They require more air than the older models, but the ride is much improved. I run around 18 lbs in mine.
air pressure wont do a hill of beans for you. Go to home depot and get one of those black back braces. it provides support and hides easy under your shirt.
Don't buy anything just yet! When I first bought my Glide I couldn't get on with it and suffered stiff shoulders and was generally uncomfortable on longer trips. All I did was spend some time making minor adjustments to the position of the stock bars and after a few attempts we clicked! Been fine ever since.
They are your bars, so take time adjusting them to see if a changed position helps. As you drop the grips towards you the angle of your hands will change, as well as dropping your shoulders and elbows. Could be that is all you need to do!
Road king bars suck. If you sit on your bike and lean back on the backrest(or back to where it would be)can you get more than your fingers on the grips? I'm 6'1" and couldn't. Adjusting the bars only puts them farther down or farther forward. Ya got ta sh@t can those bars.
