ok Stator went out and left me on the road, nothing like ending trip on a trailor... Anyway do you have to take the inner primary off to replace stator. any advise please, Thanks RexHog

Getting ready to do this job on my '07 - don't know the answer to this yet, but from the SE compensator threads, you might have to grind the inner primary a bit to get things out. This is supposedly preferrable to pulling the inner primary. Others should chime in who've done it...
One bit of advice I got was to not use the HD stator because it's trash. My '07 has 40k and in my opinion, the stator should have lasted the life of the bike, but that's my opinion. I am getting a stator/regulator kit from Cycle Electrics because of the user Dawg - that was his recommendation. A little spendy - about $480 for the kit for my bike, but if it lasts to 100k, I'll be happy!

I had my stator and regulator replaced on my '06 SG when it only had about 14k on the clock. Luckily I was able to limp it home. I had a mechanic do the work so I can't answer the original question.

You do not have to remove inner primary. Just remove the outer cover and clutch assembly and compensator assembley. It's not too bad of a job. I just fixed my pastor's bike cause the rotor sheared the grooves where it slides on the crank.

changed my 2000 UC and didn't have to take the inner off....not too bad of a job...if you've got the service manual....takes you though it......
(after thought__) put on a cycle electric 45 amp.......with fluid, gaskets and all had about 190 in it total.....

If it were me, I'd certainly remove the inner primary and change out all the seals (shifter shaft, etc.) doch4m did a great pictorial write up starting on page 3 HERE
