Default Not Happy w/Sundowner

Shame on me for buying a seat sight unseen. The Sundowner is a great seat but it moved me forward and down too much. I'm 6'3" w/34" inseam and need a 2-up seat that moves me aft. The feedback on the tallboy doesn't look that great. I'm thinking of taking my stock seat to a custom shop to see what they can come up with. I thought I'd find the answer in the search section but didn't. Anybody have the same problems and found a solution? As always, thanks!

I have a Sundowner for the long haul rides and I love it. However, it's not for everyone and not for every situation. Personally I have 3 seats and interchange them as needed. If it's still new, see if the HD dealer you bought it from will take it back. If not, put it up on Ebay .. I'm sure you'll move it without too much damage to your wallet.

Try contacting BadX on this site. He does custom seat refinishing. He will redo your stock seat and I have heard nothing but good things...

Stock seat from a roadglide will move you back and a little lower than a stock electraglide seat and is very comfortable, see them on ebay alot.

If you did a search, you would of seen numerous posts made and response from my experiece with the sundowner. And I'll say it again. I am 6' 1" and the Sundowner puts you too close to the tank.

I own one for my SG and NEVER use it. WAY too close to the tank and upright. I had BadX redo my stock seat. Nice work. I'm still looking for the ideal touring seat though. I ride with my Mustang Daytripper very often and love it, but it's not a touring seat by any means.

6'3" with a 36" inseam and I find the Sundowner does NOT move me closer to the tank than the stock seat. Backrest (custom bent), lowered shift arms, Extended brake pedal and Cruiseboards (mounted low) are critical elements for the complete comfort combo.

FWIW...

I'd sell it and get as much of your money back.

Call up Lepera, pick out one of thier seats and ask to use the "foam Program". They send you the seat with just a baseplate and the foam. You then can draw on the seat and the provided diagram sheet they provide to explain the exact mods you want. Send it all back to them and they build it and cover it to your exact specs.

I did that with thier Monterey seat and got an exact fit.

When you go to that extent to make it work for you of course not. When you infer that the Sundowner doesn't move one closer to the tank, it's bad information. If I installed foward controls, boards, cruise boards etc etc etc, maybe, but as it is...you are going to get moved up. No question. Plus, I find it to not be a very attractive seat on a SG...unless you're into the Stock EG Standard seat look
