Unhappy Oil leak need help

Was very warm out on saturday around 95deg went for a 60mile ride
my oil temp was up to 250deg pulled in the garage and there was oil all down the left side. Look like the oil is from the primary side maybe the main shaft
or the jack shaft . This is a 2000 ultra stock 88 with 27000 miles was getting ready to leave next saturday for a 3000 mile ride . My question is how long for a mechanic to fix this and what would be a fair price? thanks hor the help.

"Oil all the way down the left side..." First check what you lost, somewhere you're missing oil. ( Pinkish or brown?) If not a tranny overfill is possible, ( but I've never seen it in hot weather.)

Primary fluid should be up to the ring on the clutch basket with the bike standing up.

If all checks, clean it up and ride it again stopping every few miles and look for the leak. ( And report back immediately! )

Recently Changed fluids? added Fluids? if not then I wouldn't think that would be the issue.

The heat shouldn't have anything to do with the leak. Washing and riding is a good first good step; gotta find the source of the leak first. It doesn't take much oil to make a big mess. The inner primary is going to have to come off whether the leak is from the primary or the tranny. My money is on the inner primary bearing/seal; very common for that inner bearing to "walk" into the inner primay bearing and start leaking. If that is the case, you are looking at about $100 for parts and four hours of shop labor. I would replace everthing from the quad seal out if I had to go in there; quad seal, mainshaft seal and spacer, inner primary bearing/seal and jackshaft seal.

If you have recently changed primary fluid, perhaps the leak is coming from the drain plug? Sometimes, some Loctite thread sealer is required to stop that leak. Have you changed oil recently? Did you replace the drain plug o-ring?

a significantly overfilled primary will do exactly what you describe and look exactly like what you found when you checked everything out.

Sounds like the shifter shaft seal from the inner primary. Mine started leaking a couple of weeks ago. Same sign, oil down left side, all the way back to the saddle bags and muffler.
