Default Touring Compass

Is anyone having problems with the HD compass? I installed one in place of the ambient air temp guage on my 01' Road Glide, calibrated it and it worked for about two months. Now it won't even move. It is stuck on W. It has power to it, can't even get it into the calibration mode. Any suggestions????

Check the sending unit behind the right bag. Might have come loose and gone to close to metal parts.

Did yours spin freely when you turned. Mine snaps to the next letter when I turn. It will stay on south when I am going west for a minute then snap to west.

I do not know what is normal and usually to do not trust it. I have a GPS on long rides. Thats the ticket. GPS works perfectly.

Don't take my boat out in the gulf either without a GPS. Don't know how the old timers did it. Life is so much easier these days.

I have checked that sending unit and gawked at it in awe!!!! Hasn't come loose. Yea mine did like yours when it worked. Snapped from one letter to the next. It was a pain in the rear to calibrate. Hell, I have unplugged it and plugged it back up about a 100 times hoping something would happen. I don't trust it either, just thought it was cooler than that stupid ambient air temp guage.

Thanks for the suggestions though!!! If you think of anything else, give me a shout.

Buy a good GPS and replace the compass with an Oil Temp gauge and you won't have that problem any more. I got my Oil Temp Guage from Walley's for $79.00. Looks just like the H-D until and works fine.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. Does Wally's have a Web Site?

Mine didn't work either. Dealer replaced it twice and gave me my money back. I put in a oil temp gauge and now I am happy!
