Default I think i know.........

If I am going to put slip on mufflers, a better air cleaner(like ness big sucker) can't I just put on a vance and hines fuel pak(or similar), and not have to go to the dealer and have a stage one download?
How much is a stage 1 download? Would I be better off with the stage 1 download?
This is all for an 09 rk
Thanks.

You'll get a lot of different opinions on this, because everybody's correct!

You will definitely want to reprogram the ECM if you add and intake and mufflers, either with the HD Stage 1 Download or an aftermarket fuel manager. Many folks prefer the PowerCommander (PCV) from FuelMoto, and I really like that device for it's customized maps and superb support from that company.

The HD Download might be sufficient depending on the characteristics of the intake and mufflers that you choose. If you stick to HD brands, this would be a cost effective way to go. If you choose aftermarket brands, a device like the FuelPak or PCV (or others) will probably offer better tuning.

I am using the HD SE Stage 1 Intake and HD mufflers, and the Download has done a great job at a cost that is less than an aftermarket tuner. But I also have a dealer that is less than two miles from my house, so it was convenient to ride over there.

I purchased a PCV from FuelMoto for a previous bike, and had the bike up and running in just a few minutes because of the ease of installation. Jamie and the folks at FuelMoto take customer service seriously, and they have earned a great reputation on the forum because of their enthusiasm for their work. Their new PowerVision is getting great reviews so far, so it might be worth looking that way.

Legally the stage 1 download from harley CANNOT/DOES NOT change/enrichen your air fuel ratio(EPA) .I personally think its a scam and it makes a lot of money for dealerships/stealerships(its takes 5/10 min @ $150/$200). I run a V/H fuel pak but Im gonna spend the extra $$$$$$ for a dyno/tune(eventually) to get the most outta what I have done to my 103. A lot of guys on the forums spend big bucks on tuners and thats great but for people who can afford it ,but for the rest of us the fuel pak(around $225 on ebay) is cheaper and easier alternative to enrichen youre AFR as opposed to the powervision@$500 and up if you want the auto tune its $850/$950. Thats kinda steep for just a stage 1 and IMHO a waste of money unless you plan some other mods down the road .........Cams/Head work.

thanks all. I had a fuelpak on my last bike, and it ran very well. But it came that way. I think I can punch all the numbers in myself... I also like the pcv from fuel moto, and have never heard anything but good things about their service.
Appreciate the responses.

Yeah, FuelMoto is pretty good with service and speed. I just ordered the FuelMoto EFI Tuner and SE Air Cleaner kit around noon Wednesday, it was delivered at 8am today (Friday). Pretty quick shipping! They're having a sale too...air cleaner kit and EFI Tuner for $319. Not bad.

I like the powercommander stuff and FuelMoto's EFI (still powercommander) because you can just run a new map to it if your setup changes or if you want to tweak things.

You can call V&H for a new map (for the fuelpak)after any changes as well but I gotta admit that price for the AC and fuel motos EFI tuner is not bad at all........The SE AC is a bit of a disappointment IMHO (Ive owned several on several different TCs)when compared to the SE heavy breather or the K&N Aircharger either one of these makes a VERY noticeable difference in performance but they are quite a bit more expensive than standard SE AC but worth it IMHO............
