This is successful marketing, because they know us Americans always want the next biggest and fastest machine. I have a buddy with an 88" Street Glide and I'm on my 96" Street Glide. Both with stage 1 and rhineharts. There isn't a noticeable difference, and last I checked none of us are riding on a drag strip for pinks. They all get the job done. For me personally, dumping money on the cams, heads, or the next bigger engine is a waste of cash. You may notice a difference, but really. I'm on my 6th bike in 12 years and staying with it bone stock with the exception of the pipes and stage 1. Guess what, I can ride all over the U.S., two up, etc. It does everything a 103 can do.

Pinging is out of control, the cat will fry your right leg off, fuel mileage went from 45 on my 00 to 35 at best on the 2011. I know, cut the cat out, stage one blah blah. Seven Harleys and this is the first one that hasn't made me happy. YMMV
Stage one air cleaner, slip-ons, and download made a nice improvement. Tech told me when I get bored go for the 255 cam.

You've got 60 days to add upgrades to your bike from the date of purchase. Anything purchased and installed by the service dept is covered under factory warranty, including extended warranty. It's stunning what I'm hearing from some of these dealers. I can't figure out if it's just ignorance or outright lying.

Install the FM107 and blow the fairing off of the 103's.

Go for the 120r. No buyer remorse here. My 96 is a dining room showpiece.

It was pretty much assumed by most that the 2012 Touring lineup would all have 103's since the 2011's came out with so many having the 103 standard, or available as an option.

Knowing all of this I bought my 2011 Road King a month ago (got a good deal) and am totally enjoying the 96. Not knocking the 103, but the 96 is one sweet power plant. I am enjoying it bone stock and have zero plans to upgrade the engine. It has good power everywhere, sounds good, and I have zero heat complaints even in 95 degree heat. Of course I don't ride in shorts.

A buddy of mine had a 103 kit installed on his 2010 Ultra and gave me his barrels and pistons (3,000 miles on them). If I ever wear this set out I am good to go with a 96 all over again!
