I don't take em off every time - mostly when I'm waxing or doing a thorough washing. Also bought some small self-adhesive rubber feet to keep the bag bottoms from getting scratched. Works well - just stick one on each corner of the bag. Pretty much invisible.
Also +1 on the saddlebag secure system. I've got them on my bags and custom seat.
Here is a little trick I have been doing a long time, go to lowes or home depot , and buy some of the clear stick on bumpers for furniture, put 4 on the bottom of each bag that way you can take them off ,and not worry about scratching paint.
Spent a couple hours cleaning it all up today. First real cleaning since buying. Waxed everything after washing. Not use to chrome but will have to deal with it. Not going to blacken this one.
definitely going to get some cushions for the bottom of the bags.
