Default Used electra glide question ?

First off hello everyone. This is my first post here. I have spent some time now reading and learning from this forum! It is a great ! So On to my questions. I have had lots of bikes, lots of sport bikes and lots of ducati's. It is now time for a nice riding bike to put some miles on with my wife. I have narrowed the search down to an Electra glide classic. I have found a few nice low mile bikes ranging from 2002 to 2005. My question is ,
1) is there a better year to look for?
2) Is an EFI bike a better choice then a carbed bike? I haven't worked on carbs in many years, but I have done a lot of work on EFI bikes so I am familiar with them.
3) What about pricing? Are there years that may hold there value better then others?
4) And finally what should I look for when looking at older used bikes?
Thank you in advance for everyones help!

A classic is a good choice. Every year had something different added/taken away. The 2002's+ had the larger, beefier rear axle. Definitely recommended. The EFI on the Harley isn't exactly what you're used to with the Duck, so either will be a learning curve. Obviously, you know handling won't be the same. Buy a set of Metzeler ME880's and pump the tires beyond 43 lbs to help ease the transition. A little more dough gets you a RoadGlide, the frame-mounted fairing will be quicker steering easing the transition further yet. D-Kay

Thank you for the reply! So 2002 and on had the larger rear axle? I found a pretty nice 2002 my only hesitation is the carb. Are there any other changes one would look for? I really like the colors of the 2003 I guess they were the 100 anniversary edition. But the color is really not that important to me. I have worked on most all modern FI systems as well as the old and new ducatis so I am pretty familiar with the different systems. The handling I know will be different. I am still amazed at how good these large bikes can handle though! I plan on doing some engine work as well I love big torque engines. Is there any difference in years with regards to engines? such as better parts or availability of parts,etc..? I also really like the crusie control, Is the factory HD cruise control available with the carbed bikes? Or is it electronic? Thanks again for all the info!

The pre-Delphi EFI is essentially what you are used to on Ducati, Magnetti Morelli.

I have an 04 EG Classic and love it. As far as the injection this is the first one I have owned and I think its great, not having to choke the bike to get it started on cold mornings. It does not seem to sputter like the carb bike did. The biggest drawback I think is having to remap the bike if you want to change pipes. Over all the classic is a great choice for a cruiser, the biggest thing I had to adjust to was the weight. I went from a SuperGlide to the Classic and theres a bid differance in size and weight. Hope this helps ya.

A Classic is a good choice. Very nice motorcycle. I bought a 2001 fuel injected Classic with 20,000 miles on it for $13,900 out the door last January and have put just over 10,000 trouble free, make you giddy sweet miles on it this season. Did several, thousand mile weekends and can tell you that if you didn't have to stop for gas, you could ride all day. It is very comfortable and handles very well. BTW, My wife has been known to nod off a little back there in the Barka Lounger.
Go get ya' one.
