not been on here long so im not sure if this is the right place to put this. i just bought a 2006 Road King Classic (2 weeks ago) and today while out on a short ride i noticed some excessive sound coming from the primary area. i have read on the cam tensioners goin out on these at around 30k and mine has 27k on it.
my next question is is this something a guy can do his self. i have some mechanical skill but not a lot.
any feedback i could get on this subject would be greatly appreciated........
If you're not familiar with a Harley it would probably be best to let someone with experience look at it. The noise you hear could be caused by a number of things.
Welcome to Harley-world. They make noise, they grunt and rattle, and shake off parts, BUT it's not just a motorcycle, it's a Harley and most of us here would not want it any other way!
Harleys are noted for engine noises. If you are able to sit on top of your car or truck engine and have someone drive it, you would be amazed at what you will hear. Don,t worry about it, just drive it and enjoy it. If you are still concerned about it, buy extra warranty. Remember one thing, harleys are like the old two cylinder john deere tractors, built tough.

Good advice from shortride. They do make a lot of different noises, but if you're concerned, have it checked out.
What pipes you have on it? A couple of weeks after I picked up my bike I started hearing a rattling/clank sound coming from what I thought was the primary. After further inspection it turned out to be the baffle in my left side pipe. Turned out to be an easy fix. After doing some searching, it seems that in the beginning, Rinehart true-duals were prone to having the baffles become loose and rattle.
thanx for the info everyone.....im probably being paranoid....ill have a buddy who wrenches on his all the time take a listen to it but its probably nothing.............
