that sucks. I got the brukus saddle bag secures for my bike and my dads bike so they wont be easy to steal or fall off. he has the eg classic so falling off isnt as much of a concern for him but I got him a set anyway.

I also have the Brukus saddlebag secure.....just incase I pull another brain-fart,
I don't want to see my saddlebags sliding down the road in my mirrors.

I also go along with Operator error, I think another thing that likely happens is that when removed, the metal washer sticks to the rubber grommet and when set down it falls to the bottom of the bag and the the pin is loose when replaced.

And they make tamper proof ones also. But remember all a lock does is keep an honest person honest. If the bad guys want your stuff they will get it. That's why we pay for insurance.

All I'm hoping if a thief walks up to my bike and see's it's not a simple pop off with a screwdriver, he might move on to one that's easier. I carry good insurance, but it's a hassle to file a claim...just saying.

The stock mounting system is the same as what is used on airplanes. it was operator error. Just like everything else, those springs and clips must be checked/maintained/replaced. I always clip it in, look at it, and give it a tug.

Now, Brukus was nice enough to let me test out their saddle bag secure technology from a contest on here a couple years ago. So i gave 2 to dad for his bike and i took 2. They work like a champ. Even though I didn't pay for them, it's a $25 investment to protect $1,000 worth of saddlebag and contents.

When I wrecked, both saddlebags exploded into a bunch of pieces. The only thing that survived was the two Saddlebag Secure bolts with a piece of saddlebag on each one. So yeah, they work and have been thoroughly 'field tested.'

.................of course, bolts, lock washers, and and big flat washers work as well, but hell, 20 bucks is worth not having to piece it all together. this day and age, its tough to find a company that sells a quality product for a reasonable price - and that's what Brukus has done

Nothing against Brukus for those who don't want to do it themselves, but two clip nuts, two stainless bolts, $3.00, and 10 minutes at Home Depot, plus another 15 minutes to install was a good deal for me.

+1 on the U nuts, bolts and washers. I think I got 7/16. Got mine at Napa, less than 10.00.

These stories make me awful glad I installed the saddle bag guard rails on my FLHX. Some think they look "geezer" but hey, it's chrome... and chrome is good. And they do keep a saddle bag from tumbling down the freeway should it come loose.

The day I brought my 05 home I removed the QD pins and replaced them with bolts. It takes all of 2 minutes to remove both bags yet saves hundreds of dollars in the long run...
