Default Blacking out engine.....wrinkle vs glossy finish???

Hey everyone,

I am going to be ordering several items to black out the motor on my RGU. I have been set on going with wrinkle black finish but have read that it is much harder to clean so I am considering changing all of the items to glossy black. Any thoughts or opinions?

Looking at getting:
primary outer cover
derby cover
horn cover
transmission cover
cam chest cover
rocker boxes and covers
timing cover
transmission side cover etc

I've got all the items you mentioned in wrinkle black and I'm very happy with the decision. It is easy to clean in my opinion and you do not have to worry about fine scratches that show on painted surfaces. Plus it will match the engine casing, which is a textured black.

Thanks BF. I'm probably going to order the stuff tomorrow from Zanotti. I just was having second thoughts.

Have you looked for any of that stuff used? I lucked into finding a horn cover, rocker covers, air cleaner, and cam cover all on Ebay at a reduced price. I then turned around and sold all my factory chrome pieces, so I was not out much money at all. Most of my other parts I had powdered black over the winter, which also saved money because I re-used my factory pieces.

No but now that you mention it I'll check it out before I order it. Yeah I'm a big believer in selling take off parts to help fund the build. My take offs will definitely be on ebay.

Yea go wrincle. No ones ever done that before. Black gloss seems real original and different. IMHO.

The parts you had powder coated, was it gloss or a textured powder coat?

I had some done in wrinkle black, but most of the powdered parts are matte black (engine guard, console, fuel door, saddlebag mounts, footpegs, etc).

i powder coated my primary cover, trans top, and side covers, and right engine cover, along with the rocker box covers, all in wrinkle black

and i then powder coated my forks, dash, shield, beer cans, headlight ring, strut bars, etc in gloss black

it was more fun for me to just go out and get a cheaper powder coating kit and do it all myself.. everything turned out great, and i have made a few bucks on the side with it
