88, 96, and the 103 all seem to hit their stride about 3k rpm stock.

With the extra cubes of the 103, the feeling is more noticeable in the higher rpm range.

Cams of course will change the dynamics of each motor respectively.

exactly. With a decent stage I treatment, the bike should feel pretty good, right off idle, and you should not have to wait for the motor to spool up.

It should be noticeably torquier than the TC96 in the low-end, both from the increased displacement and higher compression, especially with a Stage 1 upgrade. I'm surprised to hear a report that the low-end is weaker than a similarly equipped 96, which doesn't sound right.

...does the 103 have the same cmas as 96???
Yes.

not wanting to replace cams, im happy with the power above 2500 rpm just soft down low..... se 255???? whats the specs on them????? lift and duration and what kind of increase in power do they provide?????
SE255 cams will provide a torque increase across-the-board, especially in the low-end and midrange, but will also bump peak HP somewhat over stock. It is not a cam set that you buy with the singular purpose of increasing peak HP, however, as that isn't its forte. The torque curve looks similar to stock, i.e. very flat, but just moves up on the chart probably around 10 ft/lbs. at its peak. If you want more low-end and midrange, these cams would definitely be on your short list.
