Ok so I am in the process of getting everything together for adding an amp, new fairing speakers and lower speakers to my 09 Streetglide. I believe everything should be here this week and I decided since I am installing lower speakers I want the fader option installed on the factory HK radio. I called the dealer a couple of weeks ago and they stated it should just be a half hour labor rate, I called again on Tuesday and again they stated it should be 1/2 labor rate. I take my bike to the shop and they look into it again and with all this Boom audio stuff there is a part number for every download on the HK radio but no prices listed in the computer or book and its past 5pm in Milwaukee so no support or answers. Well I had the bike there and said go ahead and do the download. Well two days later they finally get answers from HD and now according to HD every audio download is $100 plus the shop rate for each download as they all have individual part numbers listed. So if you are going to add speakers, ipod interface, or intercom make sure you price this download into your project. I Love my Harley but hate how they nickel and dime you on every F**king thing or should I say how everything is over a hundred bucks. Well I hope the upgrade is worth it. I guess thats why HD stands for a hundred dollers.
yep....I been luck and have been able to do everything myself, so I have been ducking the local 94 per hour labor rate.
speakerfritz,
I to am lucky and rarely have to pay shop labor rates at HD but I do not have the Harley downloads to flash the rom in the HK head unit, you need the HD computer tool for that. You are at the mercy of an HD dealer and according to my dealer today now Harley Corporate will be charging the dealers for all down loads which in turn means they will be charging the customer. I guess I could have gone aftermarket but I like the look and weather proof of the HK unit.
I took my Street Glide to Adamec HD in Jax, FL to get my 2 security remotes programmed to the bike (which I bought from them, including the security system). I asked service manager how much and he said $45. 20 minutes later, they drove the bike out. Bill was $57.50 with a disposal fee of $12.50?? Disposal fee?? WTF???
That's why I stay away from those bastards as much as I can. I don't mind paying but I really don't like getting ripped off.
