Hey All,
Love the forum. Most helpful for a new ie like me. One question for my brother. He has an 04 Road King purchased about a year ago with approximately 17,000 miles on it. It is fuel injected with Vance and Hines duels exhaust.
Bike runs great until after shutting down for has or a break. After starting. Joe does not idle well and will backfire and abut off. Have replaced the plugs and air filter but still experiencing the problem. Any help or advice would be most appreciated.
Was the air cleaner changed with the exhaust? The higher flow exhaust without higher flow air intake caused lots of backfiring in my 06 FLHRI. However, it wouldn't stall...
Wow, im obviously out of my league. Not sure about air filter change along with exhaust change, that was done by previous owner. As far as codes...how would you determine these. Were would the readout be? Again, sorry for my ignorance in these matters and thanks for all the help and patience.
The air cleaner should be easy to determine...if the black plastic backing (about the same size as the chrome cover) is gone and you can put your fingers right inside the chrome cover, it's all but certainly been changed. I supposed someone could remove that and not change the filter, etc, but that would just be silly.

engine light on should let you know if there are or were any fault codes.
I think with an 04, maybe have to jump some plug wires to be able to read the fault codes. Harley dealer can do it.
I have a powervision and can see my codes with that...if you know of someone with a powervision...they can look at your fault codes too.
Search codes on forum.....there is info on this out there.
