I've also used very fine steel wool, and never had a problem. Tried it on old bike with Cobra Pipes, and have used it once with my V&H on my King. Not a scratch!!!!!
Got some small samples of this product at a rally last year at a rally. Had frog togg rain gear and during on of our rides at Stugis last week my wife put her heels on my floor board, so the right pant leg melted to my pipes. The stuff baked on my pipes for 1,000 plus miles. Pulled out one of the sample tubes of Kleen King and it removed the 6" diameter sized crude effortlessly. Apply it to hot pipes with a white cloth. Had the wife order Two tubes last night. She ended up with a new set of HD rain gear I still have the cheap Frog Toggs.
For water spots and road grime, I use Windex original formula. It's cheap, works great and gets all those white water spots off easily. For burned on boot rubber, I use Harley Boot and Rubber remover. Put it on cold pipes and let it set a minute then wipe it off with a rag.
After I wash my pipes with Windex, I spray on a coat of Pig Spit and let it dry. This will make all following clean ups a breeze.
Now I just need some rain to ride in to try it out.
Well I got stuck in a little rain yesterday. Not much but enough for the area around the 02 sensor /cat got that baked chrome look and feel. I tried the wd 40 and it didn't phase it. Had to get the simonz chrome cleaner and 20+ minutes later to clean.Am I the only one who has the problem when the head pipe gets wet?
