Use the stethoscope and if you can't pin point something turn the radio up or install louder exhaust. Just kidding good luck.

I feel a little better now knowing I'm not the only one with an engine that makes a ticking/tapping sound. Damn those quiet pipes! lol!

I also have that ticking sound on my 09 RKC, read in another forum it could have something to do with the front caliper, but not sure. I know when I hit 4th gear or greater the engine has this slight "washing machine" sound like the motor is "agitating"! Not sure, may try that stethascope thing, if I spelled that right!

Just ride... The engine is mechanical, its gonna make noise.. especially valve train noise.. the 96 is notorious for it..

Let me know how this works out? Hope you didn't look how I spelled it.

Turned out to be a loose primary chain. I'm definately not a fan of an automatic chain tensioner that allows the chain to hit the case slightly before finally ratcheting up. Nor am I a fan of having to run the RPM's up in low gear and hammer the brakes several time to tighten it up if it doesn't tighten up itself. I've heard that in some cases these things also over tighten the chain as well. Bet thats not good for the bearings side load. When I change out my Comp sprocket this winter I think I'm going to replace the adjuster with a Hayden version.
