So I got a 2012 Street Glide, and the wind hitting me is crazy. I never felt anything like this on my road king.
So i purchased a new wind vest wind screen, and it's helped a little. I've noticed most of the air hitting me in the chest and head is coming from below. Air is moving right up the side of the tank and POW.
Any suggestions on what i can do to stop the insanity?
I have an 07 sg and yea it is alot of air. I can put my feet on the hwy. pegs and close my knees up against the tank and presto, very calm. I've been wondering if a larger heat guard would do the job. Will be following this thanks for asking the question.
Kroozeabout.
i use the fork baffle, it was standard on evos...now it's an add on.
i ride with my knees in, have them out and they direct the wind at your chest.
windscreen?--the air going over the windscreen forms a low pressure zone right behind it, move your hand around while you ride, you'll be able to feel how the air is moving.
with a street glide seat on my EG classic, I use an 8" windscreen- I'm 6'2"
I buy take off stock windscreens from the guys who buy the custom products, cut them down to desired height with a rotozip on the bottom edge ( which is hidden)- about $30 or so.
by altering your windscreen height, you can change where the eddy occurs. By moving your seating position forward or back, you can move your self in or out of it.
Guys with helmets often complain about bobble head syndrome, some helmets are MUCH better in the wind than others, I have some kind of H-D branded 1/2 with a little ducktail- it's the best helmet for the wind I've ever had---for those days when i wear one.
I do use fairing lowers, they don't make a huge difference, I use them more for my comfort ( legs) storage space and the increased air directed at the motor
there will always be something coming from below, when it's really wet, i stretch a bungee between the mirror stalks and throw a towel or t shirt over it to catch the spray coming up
