What are the pros and cons of having a driver backrest?
I'm thinking about getting one for my SG but I have been wondering if the vibration from the motor gets transmitted to the backrest. The last thing I want is to feel that vibration on my back.

What are some opinions?

Be careful. Once you ride with it, you won't want to ride without it. The backrest has three height adjustments. There is a button under the backrest cover and you can feel it at the bottom on the back. The backrest can be removed by splitting the bracket and pulling it out. The spring is hard to work, but once you get used to it, you will have no problem getting it out of there. You can't remove the seat without taking it out, so take the time and get used to it quick.

love mine too. stretch out on the highway pegs, hit the cruise, lean back and roll down the highway.

I have one on my SG, although it's off in my signature pic. Never even thought of vibration coming out of it so there must not be any.

Hey Jeff, I'm 6'4" and my RG is just fine with the backrest. Adjust your handle bars so your at a comfortable distance from them when your leaning against the backrest and you can cruise just about forever.

I have only had mine a week, but I'm already hooked. I have never felt any vibration transmitted through my backrest, and I think it's the most comfortable ride I've ever had. From now on all my bikes will have a backrest, best investment I've made on the bike.

For no particular reason, I just don't use mine. It's new except that I somehow put a very light scratch on the leather. IT IS NOT A TEAR!. I'll sell it if anyone is interested. It's the one that cost $180. I'll sell it for $125 and pay the shipping. I can send pictures if anyone is interested. It is off my 02 RKC.

never had one before ,nor a harley for that matter .
used to riding sports and sports touring machines where your weight is evenly distributed ,not so with cruisers ,

but ,got an 07 street glide and after 2 weeks and 1,000 miles i went for the backrest due to the riding position of this bike that makes me curve my back and thus ,eventual back pain.
the back rest forces you into an upright position and takes the starin off your lower back. ,now....i wish it were about 4 inches lower so that it would really press against the lower back and not a few inches higher .....and i have it set to its lowest and reawards position.

i think that the backrest is from a body/mechanical function a great asset

Love my back rest . I agree with Bountyhunter, sits way to upright the way it comes. Had to bend mine back too.
