My bf has an '02 Road King Classic (FLHRCI) with the Leather Tour Pak. We are going on a 2,000 mile trip and I would like to find a better backrest for the trunk, something more supportive. I find with just the regular sissy bar I am fine since it sits lower on my back. But when we ride with the trunk on, I find the backrest for that too high, and I slide around alot. My local dealer has not been helpful and do not know of any other options out there. I was curious if that I purchased a backrest with arms typically used with the King Tour Paks I could use that on the leather trunk. I've seen that these backrests mount with two screws just above top lid. I figured two holes can be drilled into the leather trunk, and will support the holes with a metal plate on the inside to prevent the screws from just ripping through the leather. Is this feasible?
I'd really appreciate some comments or suggestions on my options. Thanks!
I've wanted to do the same thing but never got around to it. This is what I was looking at.
This is from Harley's site. M&M Cycles price $160.75

I don't know if it will fit, but I think it comes equipted with the speakers by the looks of it. Might not fit the leather it looks kind of big. The other one is made for the leather tour pak
I did a google search and found this post with regard to putting the King Tour Backrest Pad (the one with armrests) on a King Leather Tour Pak. Haven't found any other post or threads on this . . .
Did this work? I have the same issue in that my spouse wants me to install this and I want to make sure this works before I spend $200 on it.
Thanks.
