Wish I had read this thread before I ordered the Kuryakyn Panacea tail light kit...

I've heard many times that Kury is American. That it is HQ'd in Wisconsin. Created by a guy name Rudd? Why would a guy with a very american name pick such a cheap foreign sounding name for his company? The name alone makes you not want to buy it.

I'm a parts guy and am good at figuring out who really makes things. There is A LOT of Kury stuff packed away in Harley boxes! I will admit they make some gaudy stuff. You know what though? That means that people are buying that gaudy stuff!

This statement pretty much sums it up. Not sure I'll buy their products again. Kind of spendy and not that high of quality.

I wouldn’t be worried about the taillight you ordered. The only thing I ever bought from them was the Panacea taillight and it performed flawlessly and was a quality item. A previous poster said they replaced his after 5 years.

Having given that positive review I will say that I don’t care for their products — many are just too over the top for me. Too much show and not enough go or like Ross Perot used to say They’re all hat and no cattle. But everyone has their own ideas of what looks good I suppose.

My wifes Deluxe has probably a few thousand dollars of Kury stuff on it. We have had ZERO issues with any of it, and ALL of it has been on at least 3 years, All of it still looks as good today as when we installed it.

Only issue I ever had was with a saddle Shield for MY bike...they replaced it twice with no questions asked as it cracked after several months.

Most of the chrome that you see on my 08 Street Glide is Kuryakyn product and there is plenty of it. I had one issue with the finish on the right side mirror and they replaced it promptly. Unlike a lot of the posts on this thread, I don't think Kuryakyn produces crap.

I have a set of ISO grips from Kury and had no issues with them, have worked out fine. That said, I haven't bought anything else from them because I simply don't like the look of their stuff....very gaudy IMO. However, crap is crap, no matter where it comes from. If a USA based company was selling the same crap I wouldn't buy it either.

For those of you on the "I will never buy foreign" bandwagon.....have that nice American built Ford F-150 pick-up in your driveway? 20% foreign components used. Chevy Silverado fans? 15% foreign components. And by the way, look at your VIN, because if the first number is anything other than a 1 it was assembled outside the US. And your "made in America" HD? Look hard and you will find country of origin labels for parts that are from Japan, China, Mexico, Austria, and Italy...just to name a few.

You can all knock China and Japan, but before you do, check out the two biggest holders in the world of US debt...yup, you guessed it...China at $1.165 trillon (yes trillion with a T!) and Japan at $911 billion, both as of June of this year. We damn well better make sure those countries have viable economies so they can keep buying the massive debt we put out, or none of us will be able to buy food, much less a part for our beloved Harleys.
I've seen too much here that just makes me say hmm when it come to Kuryakyn. Won't be buying any of their products. I'm very choosy about what goes on my Ultra (my "forever bike"). Before I do any upgrades or mods I do some research.

VTGlideRider makes some very good points in his post. One struck home with me. I recently traded my '09 Silverado ext. cab for a '11 Siverado crew cab. I didn't look close enough at the window sticker before I bought it, though. The '09 had a sticker in the door jamb that said "Proudly made in Lansing, Michigan by members of the UAW". A few days later, I wa shocked to see on the window sticker of the '11 "Point of assembly Mexico (some f---ing town, who cares!). MEXICO!!! WTF? Had I seen this prior to signing, I would have walked and kept the '09, Sayonara GM. OH wll, live and learn. I know, there will be the inevitabe responses lecturing me on the "global economy". I get it, really. When I have a choice, I prefer to spend my $$ on American made and sourced products, when possible and reasonable.
