Extended Warranty
Last edited by Tooth; Aug 31, 2011 at 03:10 PM. Reason: additional info
My 09 Street Glide is out of warranty, I have the extended warranty and I am waiting for a replacement stereo under the extended warranty. The dealer quoted $1000 without the extended warranty and as it should turn out to be only the $50 with the extended warranty, I am waiting to see the final bill.
The extended warranty is with CNA out of Arizona, they must pre approve all extended warranty work before they will pay for it, not really sure how it will work in the long run, my extended warranty is good until 2017.
caveats:
1.) the warranty is not provided by H-D but by another company- if they go belly up- there goes your payment
2.) just try to get a copy of the contract or info online...you can only see it at the dealership--- where it is difficult to fully read it through and consider what they are selling, what you are buying and the conditions
2.b) many, many common alterations ( like stage 1 or screaming eagle "off road" parts) may void the warranty coverage.
Yes, the guy taking a commission for selling it to you may say otherwise, but read the contract.
The contract may also require that services be done at their facility, at their price, using their parts supplies ( magnuson moss act applies to original manufacturer's warranty, not aftermarket or supplimental coverages)
after finally getting a copy of what they are selling and reading the fine print, I kept my money in my pocket and let the 2 year play out.
warranty can be "peace of mind"--- but I couldn't see a guarantee of that in the contract
mike
I remember that there was post recently about a dealer that was making great deals on the warranty and could write any one as long as the bike met the requirements, you may want to try a search.
Id stay with the HD Extended warranty for security as well.
I do most of my own work but still buy the extended warranty if I get a good price on it. parts alone can more than pay for the warranty.

You can then renew it before it expires but I can tell you that the price of the 5-year extension is not the same as the first 5 years when the bike is new.
Also, he brought his bike into the dealer he bought the warranty from two other times, so far that warranty has paid for nothing, not one penny. If it is not a bumper to bumper type warranty you may be wasting your money.
