Question fuel leak

Does anybody know why my 99 Road King leaks fuel when I turn on the bike? It comes out the rear "line" that goes into the tank. I have checked the o ring and it looks good. I have had this happen on and off for a while now. I can mess with it and it will stop for a while then start again. Last time i gently ran a toothpick in the part that connect to the tank and fuel started pouring out freely , so I put the line back on and then checked it and it quit leakingI. But now it is doing it bagain. How is it leaking when the nut is tight and the ring good? Please help as I have a trip planned for Friday

I think I found my problem. when I took the fuel line off the tank the brass piece that has the ball and spring in it fell out. Had to make a tool out of the bracket that comes in a celing fan kit. It was the perfect thickness but a little wide. With some trimming it worked like a dream, I threaded it back into the tank and reattached the line , no leaks. I did have 5 gallons of gas in the tank though. I'm sure you know where it ended up. Thanks for all the help you were going to give. It feels good to do something yourself with improvised tools.
