Actually the original one had to be replaced on warranty so I up graded to this one and paid the difference. I mostly look at the tach to keep tabs on my rpm when I'm cruising along in top gear.

You spend money on a motor you want to utilize it to it's fullest some times. What's the use of a rev limiter if it's set @ 6.5k and you torque curve starts down @ 5.8k. That's when you need a tach. Also, you may have a tunable ECM, you hear pinging at a certain throttle position and RPM. Look at the tach when it pings. Get out the laptop and take a degree or two of timing out at the RPM and throttle position you observed. Some of us like a lot of power, even in a fat ride. Fun is fun and a tach helps maximize that fun. And yes, they can make your bike faster by providing you with info to get that extra little bit out of it. YEEEEE HAWWWW
When did HD stop installing tachometers? ...I've noticed a majority of newer bikes in the HD dealers do not have one?, have been asked a few times, where's your tach? ... , would like to put one on my RKC ?
RKs never had tachs from the factory. I installed the mini tach with this bracket on my old RK and that put the gauge right where it needed to be with no interference with the windshield. I had trouble getting WS bags to fit with it, though.
They also have this one if you don't mind looking down more to view it.
If you wondering why they don't put one on the bike standard, why would they do that when they can sell you one after you buy the bike?

I agree, but some people think that the ringing in their ears and the load in the seat of their pants is more reliable than an electro-mechanical device.
