I just put a set of the Air Deflectors $ 29.95 on my bike, the ones that block the open area between the top of the engine guard and the gas tank.
The parts guy at the dealership was btrying to talk me out of them said they dont help but I read a thread on RG.org and they sounded promising so I bought them.
Im running a Cee Bailey TRSSC 15" shield and overall dont have any buffeting problems and IMO very little wind on the body or face up to 85 -90 mph. But adding these deflectors really helpd to quiet the air in the riders area, I immediatly experienced a better sounding radio with less need for as high volumne. To try to make it as objective as possible I ran up and back the same stretch of road a couple times at 65 -75-85 mph with out the deflectors and and then installed them and ran the same road to judge the difference.
I know they may not work for everyone , just as windshields etc are different for different riders but for me on my bike a big difference.
Just added a pair of these along with a set of Sancho's Wings to my RG a couple weeks ago. Put the deflectors on fairly early after getting them from the stealership, and noticed an immediate difference, then added the wings when I got home and they were in the mail, and noticed even more change.
Had to be careful the first couple of days. I kept finding myself going 10-15 mph faster than usual for the assorted stretches of roadway, I was accustomed to getting mroe wind in my face
And I can't see why the dealership would recommend against adding them. They're even standard on the new RGUs aren't they?
I don't have any (buffeting) issues, but I may try them if they will help with the volume on the radio, always looking for a way to get slightly better sound without having to turn the volume up more.
