Whats up fellas, I recently bought a '01 Sportster for the OL (she recently decided to drive. I think she got tired of looking at the back of my head). We love the bike. Only problem is the bike had been sitting up a while prior to our buying it and it has a significant amount of oxidation on the rims. Any ideas on how to get this off? I have been told to use an "acid wash". Anyone familiar with this? Does it work? If so, where could i buy some? Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ride safe and give 'em hell.
I used the metal gloss (rub in...wipe off ) took me a few applications, and then followed with the Sealer Gloss and my rims look good. The Sealer protects for several months.
Mine were oxidized with deep areas and very blotchy looking. I tried all treatments and decided to sand them out, start with 400 grit wet sand, then 600, then 800 then 1000. Next , use a heavy cut autobody liquid polisher, then a 1000 grit polish then a Meguiars final finish aluminum polish, they look better than new. Took 6.5 hrs to do one side of one rim, only restored the aluminum areas.
