motor breaking up. no power

my bike will not go sometimes. when i take off it boggs down, has no power...then ill crack the throttle and it will go and then it smells like burned fire works. it also idles high when first started. any ideas? thanks, vinnie

03 flhtcui with stage 2 kit.

Maybe youre burning up the clutch. Have you tried adjusting it? That suggestion really wouldnt answer the bogging down part though. Maybe you have a brake hanging up...

no brake problem. its all motor. i give it gas and it breaks up. then it will go and the engine light comes on.

Maybe the fuel filter needs replaced? A friend of mines street glide was having loss of power/ stalling issues and it was the filter. Just a guess though.

Other than the smell sounds a whole lot like a problem I had with my 01 Road King a few months ago. I had just replaced the plugs with Autolites. Don't make the same mistake!!! Come to find that the insulator nipple had separated from the insulator and was sliding up and down the electrode. Been running great on NGK 3932's since then. Keep us posted with what you find as could be a learning experience for those of us that can not afford a new bike every other year....
