my 2008 flhrc has an awful rattle in neutral ,but its on the LEFT side ??
Quites down as soon as i pull the clutch in to shift
So did mine. Had my indy listen and he diagnosed it as a bad bearing. Bingo, he was right, bad inner primary bearing and race. If you search this topic you will find that quite a few of these go bad. I've got a 2008 FLHR and mine went toes up around 35000. My bike sounds so much better now, get it checked out. If I'm right, you owe me a cold one!
I have this same rattle issue with the bolt in a tin can sound that is frickin loud! at around 50mph.
HD and the dealer did work on my 2012 RK to try and reduce the rattle loudness and it seems quieter now but if I had heard this rattle during my test ride THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD HAVE SPENT 18.5k FOR THIS MOTORCYCLE.
This isn't Nuetral rattle. This is "ping" very common on the new 103's along with very loud valve train noise on some (most).

A rattle in neutral is commonly reffered to as "netural rattle", hence this thread. If it goes away when you pull the clutch, then according to a couple of indy's I've talked to it is harmless and is the result of a gap between the plates and not a problem. If it dosen't go away, or you hear it at 50 mph, as posted by another op, then you have other potentially bad issues.
On the topic of the "ping" or "pinging" during acceleration, I have heard from them that it is in fact a very common problem in the 103's but not something to worry about although no one, including the dealer has been able to explain just what the F*%# it is.........

If its a pinging issue ignoring it is not a good idea. Just because the MoCo is saying its normal doesn't mean ignore it.

Pinging (detonation) is NEVER "normal" in a gasoline engine and will eventually lead to mechanical damage if not eliminated. The MOCO and its dealers are just demonstrating their normal MO of denying and glossing over the design defects in these bikes.
They've been doing this ever since I can remember and will continue to do so as long as people keep buying these bikes and spending their own money to make them run right.
Mine does it..heck it makes a whole bunch of other noises as well lol You can really hear it in the garage after taking a ride and the bike is nice and hot. Sounds like the MoCo treats it as normal so thats about as far as you are going to get with it.

I was at 2 stealerships today they both stocked Redline TransFluid however
they keep it the service dept and put it in during a service.
Not available or shall i say Put out On Display for the Customers!!!!!
Dealer were i bought the bike went in the back and sold me 2 quarts.
I got that dang rattle. Drives me nuts. Told the mechanic at the dealership and he brought out the bulletin. I got it stored in my tourpak. I just crank up the music a little loader to compensate.
