IMO, the '93 thru '98 EVO's are the best, most reliable, durable and easiest to work on bikes the MOCO ever built - or ever WILL build, for that matter.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I completely agree that the MOCO's QC has slipped drastically since around the time of the Twin Cam introduction - or maybe it's just their design & engineering philosophies that have degenerated.
It seems like they've kind of gotten into the "Screw it, they'll buy anything with the H-D logo on it, so why spend a penny more than absolutely necessary to crank out these bikes" mode. I remember back in the day when the big three American auto makers went down that road, and that didn't work out well at all for them.
Nor is the MOCO the only bike manufacturer that appears to be far less concerned with delivering a quality product - far from it! I'd say that, sadly, the Japanese consistently turn out the best bang for the buck products nowadays.
I'm sure others on the forum will have differing opinions, but this is mine.
