2012 Street Glide 103. When hot after riding for an hour, only make noise when in neutral and the clutch is out. Pull the clutch in and noise stops. My 07, 08, and 09 did not have the rattle but my new 2012 Street Glide started doing this at 500 miles. Same story as others Dealers say I was lucky on the older bikes but the noise is normal. I will say that this bike makes more noise than any other Harley I have ever owned. Still runs great, just noisy.

I am going to try this to. I live in Texas so I think it is hot enough here to run the Mobil 1 75W-140 Syn Gear Oil.

So sad, but so true! That's what I've ended up doing and it's worked out great.

IMO, the '93 thru '98 EVO's are the best, most reliable, durable and easiest to work on bikes the MOCO ever built - or ever WILL build, for that matter.

My new 2012 Street Glide has lots of noises, Primary case: sounds like it has a blower installed "loud blower belt wine". When hot has valve train noise..."tapping". Then after long rides here comes the "rattle" out of the transmission. Not sure I am going to keep this bike very long at all. Big disappointment. Harley must have no quality control or pride in their products. I can her a Victory calling me...........

That might be an option if you want a brand new bike and it's probably the highest quality American made bike being produced today, but there are LOTS of '93 -'98 EVO,s. around with low miles and for great prices. Personally, that's the only way to go for me.

I completely agree that the MOCO's QC has slipped drastically since around the time of the Twin Cam introduction - or maybe it's just their design & engineering philosophies that have degenerated.

It seems like they've kind of gotten into the "Screw it, they'll buy anything with the H-D logo on it, so why spend a penny more than absolutely necessary to crank out these bikes" mode. I remember back in the day when the big three American auto makers went down that road, and that didn't work out well at all for them.

Nor is the MOCO the only bike manufacturer that appears to be far less concerned with delivering a quality product - far from it! I'd say that, sadly, the Japanese consistently turn out the best bang for the buck products nowadays.

I'm sure others on the forum will have differing opinions, but this is mine.
