Not having the kickstand safety switch or the clutch interlok is the cool thing about owning a Harley. They are nothing like a metric bike. I use to have my own safety reminder on my old shovel. It was a sticker on my handlebar clamp cover that said "Turn The Gas On Stupid."
Harley's are notorious for having the springs get weak over time and if there were a Jiffy Stand switch then the bike would cut off too often. Real men and women ride Harley's and don't need another switch for safety. Hell....most riders in non-helmet law states ride without helmets. I think it's a non issue.
Ride on with your new glide and enjoy what good old fashion american muscle has given you...prestige and power.
I'm brand new to HD and the forum. I just purchased an '07 ultra classic and this is the first bike I've owned that appears NOT to have a side stand safety Switch. When the bike is in gear and the stand goes down I am used to the bike shutting off. With my Ultra the bike keeps running.
Is this normal?
Thanks,
The 07 models DO HAVE A SAFTEY SWITCH! It is under the clutch lever and keeps the bike from being started while in gear. All previous years had none and if you were not paying attention you could hit starter button while it was in gear and it could start.

Ahhh, ummm, so what you're telling me is that my FLHTCUSE2 has a defective clutchymathingyImadammidiot safety switch? I dang near took out the workbench in my garage the other day cuz I had one of dem moments. I'm gonna hafta investigate this further... I shall report back.
The metric guys put in the switches for fear of litigation. Kudos to HD for not falling into the "Oh my God, we could get sued" historonics.
If you are to stupid/hurried/absentminded to drive off with the sidestand down, you probably shouldnt be on a motorcycle in the first damn place, and you deserve what you get. I bet you only forget once, though.
