Yesterday I got on my bike for the first time in nearly 3 months. Boy did it feel good. Then I got lost somewhere here in Sicily. Finally found my way back and was faced going down a nice steep hill. Up until yesterday I had never done hills (other than bridges) so steep hill during rush hour was not exactly fun. But I was ok. I will get used to them the more I ride, but you have to start somewhere and I did just that. Also found myself on a couple of dead end roads that were kind of hard to turn around in. Times like this, I would love to have a nice light weight sportster. LOL Anyways it was good and I am going to enjoy the next ride also.
Riding in Italy can be very exiting and dangerous...just remember to ride like the Italians ride. I was stationed in Vicenza for 4 years and those were the best riding I did. Not on a Harley, but on a Ducati.
Now if you REALLY wanna dice with death ride the Amalfi coast.
It is complete chaos. I really couldn't figure out the signs that kept saying "Give way to passing traffic" - on the one side of the road (which is extremely narrow) is sheer cliff up, the other side is sheer cliff down in to the sea. I never did figure how I went about "giving way"
Hired a scooter for the day. I travel a lot and am blessed with having a lot of vacation time - that was my best day on hols ever!
Was there for 3 years, bought my sporty for riding there. Some nice roads, watch out for geep ****, it's slippery as well, geep ****, and oh yeah, cobblestones suck. If you ride out to the west side of the island down by agrigento and gela, it's pretty good, nit much traffic and some good sights.

Love Italy - just got back from 6 weeks there.

Italy is my favorite vacation place. Just returned from Ravello on the Amalfi coast and yes, those roads make the tail of the dragon seem like childs play! LOL!

I wanted to do the tail of the dragon before coming out here. But I was too busy getting my house ready to rent out and I wasn't able to go anywhere cool. Oh well.... As far as the one mentioned here goes, maybe towards the end of my tour. I won't like.... I love to ride, but I am still apprehensive a lot of times with taking corners.
We learn as we go. Can you ferry the bike to the mainland? I would love to ride in Italy. Good luck and ride safe.
Yes... I can take a ferry over. I plan to do that eventually and then ride up to Germany. Will probably be a 2 week vacation.
By the way, I love your Road King Custom. I had the same bike up until March when I traded her in for my Street Glide. Love my glide, but wish I kept the King. So much cheaper.
