Can anybody tell me what kind of mileage should a person get on a 1450 motor before major rebuild.
Taking into consideration regular oil changes and proper maintenance.
Thanks

The most I have ever gotten is 38 MPG with mostly highway miles at about 75 MPH and sometimes 80 MPH. A mixture of city and freeway about 33 to 34 MPG.
I'm looking for 80,000 plus, but I commute surrounded by cages into Boston every day, so I may not make it. Change oil every 2,000 or more frequently. Depends a lot on whether you're in hot summer stop and go in traffic or cruising highways mostly.

Other than the cam chain issue, IMO, the average TC should go 100k+ easily before the top end needs attention. Also, IMO, the bottom end should go well beyond 200k before it needs attention.
My '00 has 64k and runs as good as it did when new. It doesn't smoke or use a measureable amount of oil between changes. I can't complain.
An average cheapo foreign car will go way beyond 100k easily, why shouldn't a 20k bike be expected to?
My 2000 had 99k when i sold it in 03, the 03 had 47k when i did the 103 with just normal wear on pistons, and have 67k on the clock now. A riding buddy has 123k on his 2001 stock and it still runs well. Hes replaced shocks and belts but other than normal maintenance nothing major done.
