Hi,
I,m thinking about buying a new 2012 CVO Streetglide but have heard there might be problems witht the engine overheating ?
I,m in the UK so don thave too many people over here to ask.
lots of riders complain about heat- some wanna hire lawyers.
you sit on top of a motor, it's gonna get hot.
the bigger the motor, the more heat it'll produce.
so that's my take on "my bike is hot posts"
i test rode a 110" cvo last year here in Phoenix at about 95ş- i also rode a couple of 103 and 96 bikes the same day, I didn't notice anything unduly hot.
It's huge hunk of cash, you should take your time and if really serious, test ride the thing.
not to take a swipe at the UK, but let's say the climate there will do a good job cooling the bike compared to here.

ps for my needs, the bigger motors served no advantage. i went with a 96 and saved a few grand
Early 110's had big issues. A lot of the major issues have since been worked out.
Replacing the stock head pipe with a catless pipe goes a long way to cooling it down.
With that said, both my 103" and 110" run hot, but as said it is due to discplacment.
On my 103" I had the head gasket replaced due to oil seeping along the bottom of the rear cylinder in the direction the bike leans. It was very slight and was just discoloration and didn't drip or puddle.

Got my CVO SG about 3 months ago and know I'll never go back to a non CVO!
Every time I ride it I love it more and more.
Head pipe change reduces the heat build up and yes, in traffic it can get hot, once your on the open road it's not an issue at all.
Just enjoy!!

I agree 1000% with plasmadaddy. I love my CVO. If I had not just got mine I'd have a 2012 red CVO SG. I've seen all the colors of the 2012 CVO Street Glide. Very impressive bikes. Mine not any hotter than any of the other Twin Cam engines I've had. It was hot at first but after a couple of thousand miles its not that bad anymore but when its 100 degrees its hot no matter what your'e doing. I say go for it. You only live once.

bought a 2011 cvo ultra two months ago. this bike runs much hotter than my previous 2008 ultra classic, so much so i asked for a fix, harleys answer is they all run hot. my bike is so hot that it is uncomfortable to ride. bike is now at an engine specialist who says he can help, will know next week how well he has done. a $37,000 bike should be nothing but perfect, harley has a long way to go!!!

Is it all hype or is there some truth to it ?
Thanks everyone

Personally, I think there IS some truth to it. My 2011 103 Ultra was way too hot until I put on Vance & Hines Power Duals. Cooled it WAY down to what I consider normal. I didn't want to "mask" all that heat with fans, open lowers, etc --- I wanted to genuinely cool it off, and The Power Duals did it.
The heat is caused by the cat in the header and lean AFR. Changing the exhaust or even cutting the cat out of the stock header along with a good tuner and it is no worse than any other new Harley.
