Capt Itch's crotch cooler lets you use your adjustable backrest. That was one big selling point for me. That should be part of a new design. Also the leather looks cool and some of the plastic ones I have seen do nothing to add to the bike.
Captn Itch's crotch cooler is the best thing since sliced bread.
+1 on that! Awesome product and good folks as well! I prefer their product over the plastic ones. It looks like an extension of the seat and WORKS! And btw, I really like the LRS Ultra windshield too. Good price. Good product.
I've had mine on my bike since 2005. One of the best mods I've done. And I think I have the best looking version of these out there. RJ's Originals. I'm not affiliated with them, but I think RJ was the first, no doubt (in my opinion) the best looking by FAR!!!! They look like they are part of the bike and not thrown on as an after thought like everyone else that came late to the game.
RJ's is a high quality product that does exactly what they are supposed to do. If my memory is correct they are made by US vets. Since so many companies are making these things I wish you the best of luck. Not sure how you could improve on the look or function of RJ's, perhaps on price?
If you do decide to make them, please consider those of us who have installed adjustable rider's seat backs. HD's adjustment device precludes the use of heat shields on the left side. If you can design a shield that still works with the adjustment latch in place, you'd have a sure sale here!
Just a thought . . .
FWIW, I specifically asked about that combo when I was at the Kuryakyn tent at Sturgis this year. The Kury guys said theirs will fit HDs with the adjustable back rest lever on the left side but it does require the rider to be a bit more "nimble" to reach the lever while riding. They did not have the shields installed there on a bike with the adjustable rider backrest so I didn't have a chance to see just how much room was there to reach it.
1. RJS Orignials heat deflectors - made by an USA Vet, the very first design out on the market, made with aluminum and vinyl to match the lines of the bike and the color / texture of the seat. They are not chinese plastic BS and they are worth every penny to me each and every ride and they also work 100% with my HD adjustable backrest.
2. Not being fat and having my legs lay up against the rear cylinder.
Hope you dont make another set of plastic ones from China....
RJ's all the way. This was the very first thing I added when I bought both my '07 SG and '09 RK. He was the first out there years ago and made by a USA Vet.
I think the molded plastic versions all look like s**t. Cheapo appearing to me.
Of course I generally try to avoid the HD branded stuff when I can (if the quality is there) and give the $ to independent guys out there bitin' and scratchin' for new business vs just another part in the massive corporate retail machine that is today's MoCo.

Best of luck,

LMAO!! I could have written that word for word! Just what I was thinking as I was reading the other posts.
So..ditto that for RJs.
The only thing I can add (if memory serves me) is RJ took alotta crap when his came out. HD said they would trap the heat or some other such BS and said you shouldn't use them. That is till they came out with theirs...
