I know how to check for leaks around the header, what is the tell tale sign that it is leaking around where the slipons attach to the headpipe.....slipons are sounding a little funny on decel...I've heard of people mentioning if the clamps loosen that there can be leakage at this spot, just not sure of what signs may be
A candle or a cigarette would work. I had trouble viewing the smoke underneath the pipe so I threw my little hand held video cam underneath and filmed while I moved the cig around the bottom of the pipe.
For the life of me I'm having a brain cramp on whether the slipons fit in the header pipe or over it?......if they fit over it would be hard to leak no? Trying to recall from memory and it ain't working lol

Just on decel sort of a pffft pfft pfft tone
Slip-ons slip over the pipe. I think the real trick is figuring out exactly where to position the clamp to get the best seal. Which is something I have yet to figure out. The slip-ons have two cut outs to allow the clamp to seal, but how far past the cut out do you place your clamps? I've contemplated using high temp sealer as I've seen other on here have done. I think getting the exhaust system on a Harley sealed is an art, because no matter what I do (new gaskets and clamps, follow Service Manual steps), I still end up eventually having a leak somewhere.
So whats your secret for checking for a leak at the header? I usually just listen and look for the tell tale signs. Please share?

Try using some RTV Hi-Temp Silicone...I use the Permatex Ultra Copper...seals it and makes removal much easier.
