Ultranutz, I did what you suggested and the engine light comes on and then off, after 6-7 seconds the engine light comes on and stays on steady for about 5 seconds and then goes off and never comes back on??? Bad ECM??? I really appreciate your help as this bike is driving me absolutely crazy---Bill

no sir. this means it's a historic code. it will clear itself after 50 cycles of the bike running for at least 30 seconds.

do you have any kind of fuel management system on this bike? power commander, v&h fuel pak, etc?

Bill, you do not mention thru your post what you did to the IAC. Also some one was hinting exactly what version of IAC and injection system you had on this 01. What did you see when you checked the in and out motion on key on/off/on with the air filter off.

UltraNutZ, I finally figured out what was wrong and you are going to laugh. After making you NUTZ it turned out to be a bad fuel pump. Keeping in mind I just replaced it a few days ago. The Stealers sold me a bad one. Live and learn and that is exactly what I have done. I am now a proficient fuel injection person. I have learned an awful lot about these systems thanks to you and the rest of the people that tried to help and hopefully I will be able to help others. Thanks again and again. Safe riding and keep those knees in the breeze. Respectfully Bill
