I get more honest answers from the service guys than I have ever gotten from the sales people. As far as I'm concerned, all salesmen (cars or motorcycles) are just a bunch of friggin, lying, turds that just want to sell you something and make a buck. The person I bought my 07 from is the same way. I ask the service guy about problems with 07's and he tells me, "sure, I heard about them, what do you want to know?" Go ask the salesman and they act like it's the first time they ever heard of such a thing. We all know that's either total BS or they are totally clueless about the product they are promoting.

Apparantly, word is getting around because she has two 07 Ultra classics sitting on her floor for over two months that I'm sure were ordered and then they backed out of the deal. I think people want the 07's with the big engine and six speed tranny but enough bad press has gotten out that now even though there are many with no problems, most don't want to take the chance on getting one that has all the noise problems.

Here's a prediction: The price of the 07's will start to creep down while the price of the used 06's, 05's, etc will creep up.

Sales people, another necessary evil when buying a bike (or car).

Rhinovans, think about this for a moment. I have nothing against 07's by anymeans, if someone has one and it runs good. then great, happy for ya. BUT! Why take a perfectly good 05 and give it back, with thousands of dollars, to a suspect dealer for practically the same bike. Ya I know the engine is a little bigger, but I test drove one up at Seacoast Harley in NH this summer and it was no big whoop. I did a stage one on my 05 and took it to a good dyno tuner and came out with about 74hp and 80 pounds of torque. This thing runs all day at 85 miles and no heat(tru duals does the trick). You couldn't pry me off that bike if I had my way. I definetly would not do it and think you are doing the right thing. Wait for a 120hp water cooled touring bike from HD that hides the radiator in the fairing, then make a move,(you just know that's comming in about 3 years), meanwhile ride the sh*t outta the one ya got![X(]

I gotta agree, when the 07's came out about two months after I had picked up an 05 Road Glide that was the Harley dealer reps bike of the year, I was a little steamed thinking I could have gone a couple thou more and had the 96" with the 6 speed.[sm=bomb.gif] And I would have, because I wasn't trading anything in ( My 83 shovel Super Glide will NEVER go anywhere )
I have a good dealer, ***'s in Rock Hill SC that would have taken care of me if the 07 had given me problems. But I love the 05 came with a lot of extra's that the dealer rep had installed an it runs great, stage 1 no popping or heat issues and 45 mpg every time unless I'm riding two up then it gets around 49 to 50 kinda wierd never had one do that but it's every time. I've been gathering parts as the XM & Sirius SAT. mounts I sell allow me to so far I have a 95" kit, and set of big boys ported heads and a set of Andrews 37G's cams ( THANKS PHIL ) so I'm only a gear set a dyno jet tuner and a DD Fatcat away from 90+ hp and maybe a 100 Ft Lbs for less than $1600 so I think you made the right choice give'em a year or two to get a handle on the EPA s##t the motors a great design and the aftermarket will have a field day with it. So in closing I wouldn't be to hard on Harley because they're between a rock and the EPA ( which is harder than any rock [sm=lol.gif] ) Now salesmen, well you know the old saying [sm=happybounce.gif]

Thanks for all the replies on the matter: Here was my logic on the trade:

Sale of 05 UC $15,000 (dealered offered $13,000)
3 year warranty $ 1,000 (my bike 2 years up in 3/1/7, so I was going to buy a 3 year from Zanotti's)
20,000 service $ 1,000 ( bike just went over 20,000, the dealer service to include forks $850, $1000 for easy numbers)
Sun ray heated $ 1,000 ( went on a business trip, pocketed a grand and was going to get the preimum SUn Ray heated seat)

Total $18,000

New 07 UC vivid black $20,530 (includes freight)
add for dealer rip off $ 1,000

TOTAL 21,530

Difference was only $3530, so I thought why not get new for only $3000 more...bigger motor and 6 speed tranny cost more that that in an upgrade to an 88.

Till yesterday, I had no interest in my 05 UC, but got an email last night that a guy was interested..OH Great! Decisions, decisions

OK, now I gotta hit you with reality! I heard twisted logic, but you are a master! Your true cost difference in the scenario you present is more like $7000! How do I come up with that prey tell? Here we go. Things you don't need:

1.20,000 service(rip off). Most adjustments can be done easily by you or friends with a manua.-------$1000
2. 3 year warranty. Bike runs good after 2 years, you're all set. Just watch cam tensioner. -----------$1000
3. Sun ray heated seat. This comes off the table cause you would by it for new bike too. --------------$1000
4. $4000 beating you will take when you let it go.------------------------------------------------------------$4000

IT GETS WORSE!!!!!!

Add:

1. Stage One with tuner,pipes,air box,dyno-------------------------------------------------------------------$2000

Total raping=$9000.00!!!! All that for about 5 more horse and 6-7 pounds torque? And one extra gear.......(sorry for the sledge-hammer approach but this is an INTERVENTION)

As most everyone knows by now, all HD was lengthen the stroke to increase the displacement. Sure it added a few horses, but the '06 I rented last year rode just as good and the difference in power isn't noticable. I bought my '07 because I wanted a touring bike. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought a low mileage '06 that already had the Harley tax paid and a few goodies on it and pocketed a few thousand dollars. If I had an '05 or '06, I wouldn't even consider trading it for an '07.

Just traded my 05 Ultra for a 07 Ultra. Couldn't be happier!! So much more power and love the 6 speed!! As far as any noise, none, my 05 was far noisier! And my 05 got far hotter than the 07 has displayed at all. If you look back at all that has been written here about the other years of them I really don't think there is anymore with the 07.

Not to beat it to death but I think the issue is not really if the 07 is a good bike or not, if you got one and you like it you go in the "happy" column, some don't and they are in the "dissapointed" column, but as far as value? No way is it a good deal, any more than buyin a car new, then tradin in after 2 years because the tweaked the motor on the same model 10%. As far as 07 having, quote: "so much more power", where do you get that from. Harleys own dyno #s don't show that, and if anyone had a reason to puff em up. they would. I test drove an 07 Road King and it wasn't enough anything to make me bend over for one. Tuned 05 will beat stock 07 anyday.

Bottom line: Trade or sell 05 to get 07 if that's what one wants, but don't pretend somehow it's gonna be a good deal. It's only a "good deal" for the dealer. MMMMM....Momma's Turkey almost done..drinking candle lit in t-minus 17 minutes....Happy turkey day all!!!

traded 06 heritage for an 07 ultra classic in october. i really liked my heritage but i sure love the 07 ultra and actually think it runs pretty damn good right out of the box. would not go back to the 06. my heritage had screamin eagle slip ons and air cleaner with the hd stage 1 download. this ultra is 80 #'s heavier and i know in stock form it would definately run away from that heritage. i personally think you are making a mistake by not getting the 07! just my personal opinion. you know that opinions are like ********, everybody has one!

I almost did the same thing. I've got a 2004 EGC and thought about trading her in for a newer one. But after I thought about it and all the work I had done to get mine where I wanted it I realized I can spend alot less money doing more to my 04 and making it even better than to spend more and have to start over. Besides the Dealers are not going to give you what your bikes worth. If you have to sell her sell her out right and then go get another...But with mine only having 12k miles and nearly where I want it I'm gonna ride her till the wheels fall off.
Good Luck in your decision...
