I just spoke to my stealer. He states the recall (0903:TORQUE SMOOTHING CALIBRATION) is a one-time re-map that shuts down the rear cylinder for stop & go, parade-type functions. This will elevate the high heat created by idling. One you hit the throttle, the rear cylinder starts firing.
I’m sticking to my PCIII set-up which is working just fine
Dan - the odometer went up another 100 miles this morning
That would be the parade map, this is not that,According to printed material in a page one post The download changes the torque curve form the higher 2-2500 rpm to a lower 1500 it is not heat related but might help if adding in fuel is part of the flash.
Yeah,.... cause I already got the parade download, and my VIN popped up to come in for this new fix too.
Think the dealers sometimes have the wrong person answering or it's too new a topic for them to have sorted out yet.

Well, I was able to get my bike in right away. My dealer, like many others, had no idea about the recall. They punched in my VIN and there she was, recall notice and all. The head tech was pissed. In his words "When in the f__K was HD going to tell us about this!". Anyhow, he downloaded the fix from HD and I was out riding in less than 20 minutes. I went for a fair ride, about 120 miles, and it seemed like it was a little stronger right off idle in first gear. AS far as the clattering...still there in 5th up to about 2500 rpm. I've made it a point to ride in the 2500-3000 range when cruising in 5th, and the clatter isn't noticeable. Bottom line: This recall isn't going to change the dilema for us "Clatterers". I'm just going to ride mine until the wheels fall off. Might as well get the $1K worth out of the 5 year extended warranty I bought. LOL
Okay...had my "reflash" done this afternoon. As a calibration point, I just turned over 600 mi this afternoon as I mentioned before.........still breaking it in so you know what that means...I've been living between 2K to 3.5K. Frankly, I could tell immediately at lower rpms around 2K or so, the motor was smoother. Didn't matter what gear...smoother by a pretty good margin. Previously, anything else less than 2.2K or so, it really didn't care for. Now, in say gears 1-4, no problem hanging around 2K, much smoother. In 5-6, I really don't go much below 2.2 so really can't say in that range. On my bike, made a nice improvement.
I got the 'fix' this afternoon but I really can't tell the difference in performance. I have not had any issues with tranny noise, chain slap, compensator issues or knocking or pinging issues. Ronnie in service had to look up the recall like others dealers had to. I rode a little at 2,000 rpms and a little less, no ill effects. Didn't crank the throttle but just rode a steady speed. If this download could possibly move the torque curve by sweetening up the AFR somebody please explain this to me. I don't understand how without a cam change. Maybe the whole curve could move up the scale a bit but I didn't notice more power, but I was still smilin' so all is well.
Thank you dawg for bringing this to my attention. I just got back from getting the ecm update. NO MORE pinging!!!! It's in the 50's today in PA so I really can't tell about the heat issues. On my way out to the dealer I would open up the throttle around 70 mph and could make the valves ping slightly.
This completely went away. Bike seems to pull harder too. Maybe I'm being optimistic and only hearing what I want to hear but I do really see an improvement. I'm sure that we will be getting tons of imput on this.
My 07 FLTR is at the dealer for the winter, having some upgrades done. They didn't know anything about the recall when I called this morning. The service manager even said that they probably couldn't do it yet because they didn't get any parts for a recall!!! This is before we are finding out it's a ECM download.
Honestly though, my dealer has really has been great to deal with.
BTW.....My stock Bike is AWESOME, runs great, no surging, no clanky tranny. Just a little whine in 5th and it does got HOT. I'm getting the SE Touring Pipes and and "the stage 1 download".
I can't believe others have this bullentin but not my dealership and they never even called back today about the issue! I starting to think my dealer is suspect!
