I had this done today on my Ultra Classic. I immediately noticed that the bike pulls much smoother throughout the rpm range. After a change you are usually trying real hard to "notice" a difference, so I rode it for about 50 miles through all types of traffic conditions to confirm my initial thoughts. Definately smoother.
I could tell a difference at higher rpms as well. Not sure if this is intended or a side-effect, but as I pull through 3k and past 4k, the vibration in the motor was much smoother. I found myself revving higher, because the smoothness was throwing me off from when I usually shift.
As for pinging, I don't have any now. I could hear the sewing-machine sound that 5th makes, but no rattling. I must admit though, that my rattling had almost disappeared prior to this, which I contribute to the cooler temperatures outside these days. For what it's worth, it was gone completely this afternoon. Who knows.
Any difference in heat...I don't know yet. As I said, with the temperatures lower outside the heat is not a problem for me at the moment. I plan on getting A/C, SERT, and pipes in a few weeks anyway, so that should resolve the heat issue completely I would think.
I read somewhere that this flash may produce a little better gas mileage as well. Time will tell. Hopefully a lot of others will have good experiences as well.
According to the bulletin itself its no more than an ECM download, and the MoCo is only allowing .2 hours labor for warranty reimbursement.
It doesnât sound like they expect too much in the way of problems if they are only allowing for 12 minutes of warranty chargeable labor time.
It also states thatâs its an upgrade to the base ECM map programming so I seriously doubt that it would affect a SERT or PCIII as these are add on devices and only use the installed ECMâs map as a base line to work from.
Worst thing I can think of is that you might have to lean one out just a touch In the low to mid range to get back to where you were before the download. Otherwise it âmightâ run a little rich.
Now if they would come up with a PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN for the clatter coming out of the primary, man would I be happy. I rode it 120 miles today. The first 60 miles it did good, but after that all I wanted to do was burn it. I can't ride and keep it above 2500 rpms all the time. The bikes riding close to me sounded 500 to 700 rpms lower all day. HD please give the clatter a PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN!
Im sure this first fix is to weed out all those with noises from lugging and the pinging problems, so that the bikes with a true clatter can next be addressed, seems logical to me anyway.
Called my dealer today and they didn't have the information of the bulletin yet...
Said I was the second person had inquired about it..
Going up there with the print out tommorrow.
I agree with gunnrunner, it just the tip of the iceberg.
Dang, Gunrunner! Very good logic. It sounds like the start of the right sequence of fixes so as to make sure that any compensator and tranny fixes (for those who need them) are valid. Anxious to get mine flashed tomorrow, even though no probs cause it's sounding like there will be some small increment of performance improvement. We'll see...

I checked my vin # on HD's website for my 07 EG Classic and nothing came up about the recall. Maybe they caught mine before it left the factory as the date on it is 11/06.
Have you had any pinging, knocking, or clattering problems?
Now that HD has admitted that prior to this download engine damage could occur, how are we to determine that? Has the lifespan of this engine been reduced since they told everyone that "this is normal" when it obviously wasn't? Is there a way to inspect my pistons to see if they were melting?! I think they should extend the factory warranty out an additional two years for those that require this download but I doubt that will ever happen.
Have 2800 trouble free miles on mine. It's going to be 60 today so I am going to ride and take a copy of the service bulletin to my dealer today. I am hoping since I have the Sert that my ECM is fine.
