I had the Harley detachable locks with that long goofy mini barrel lock style key. The locking cams fit so tight they gouged the crap out of the plastic parts on my bike mounted detachable docking hardware. I followed another forum member's advice from here and bought these instead:
They are nicely machined and come with a security bit. It is a mini torx with a security post in the middle so you need the special bit to get the fastener on and off. There's not much of a head to get a grip with a pliers so I feel it is every bit, if not more, secure than the HD part. I don't have any connection with the ebay seller, I just like the product.
Nothing is 100 percent secure, but anything that will make someone spend a few minutes to slow them down from just walking away with my $1500.00 tour pack makes me feel a bit better.
++1 These locks work great! I would definitely recommend. I was sent the wrong ones the first time. I contacted the company and they immediately sent out the correct set. Nothing is completely safe, however, these locks are a simple and cost effective deterrent for someone looking for a quick score.
I've heard a lot of negative about the harley cam locks. Consider looking at the Brukus product for the docking station. I got one and I'm very happy with it. Brukus has a great reputation and backs their products.
Thanks for the good word! We are now working on a similar lock for the inside cams, a ShieldShackle for the Heritage detachable windshields AND a KickShoe for Softails... We keep working!
1. We now have an answer to the inside cams for securing the Sissy bars / Tour-Paks, etc. It's our TourPack BULLET Secure! $29.95. And securing one cam on one side is all you need - although you can also purchase 2 - one for each side.
2. For this weekend - we are offering free domestic shipping within the U.S. and reduced shipping to Canada and other international friends! Shipping sale ends Monday, Nov. 28th at midnight! This applies to our products on the Forum Discount, too!
