Somebody must be buying the stuff. Lucus Oil has sold enough to sponsor the Colts stadium in Indianapolis.

I'm still sticking with my engine cocktail of choice, Mobil 1, neat.

I am not a petrochemical engineer so my opinion is only this, an opinion, based on a pretty sound mechanical aptitude.
I believe as mentioned previously, that all it does is increase the viscosity of the oil. I don't think this is necessarily a good thing. At what point is it too thick or viscous to inhibit sufficient oil flow for cooling and getting into all the minute cross hatches in the cyclinder wall etc.
From reading the study on motorcycle oils on the Amsoil website (and not being nieve enough to think there is no bias being placed on their product) it appears from their "independent testing" that Lucas products were the most inferior of all, in most categories that are tested. Their 10W-40 oil actually dropped two viscosity ranges from room temp to full hot operating temp. This being the case it doesn't surprise me that they came up with a stabilizer to keep the oil in range. I have no confidence in any of their products based on this.
Years ago there was STP oil treatment. A thick heavy viscous additive we put in old cars to help maintain oil pressure and stop burning oil. This seems to have fropped out of the market. I think Lucas is the same sort of thing.

Had oil temp issues in a racing engine that sees plenty of abuse. Added the LOS as the race engine builder suggested and the oil temp dropped between 15-20 degrees. So i guess its trial and error with whoever chooses to try it. i dont use it in my SG but i wouldnt be afraid to at all.

I know this is an old thread, but as a mechanic for more than 30 years I can tell you Lucas will coat the entire inside of the engine. I use it in everything thing I own to include a 1965 John Deere lawn mower. Not only does it reduce cold start up friction, it also will make the engine run cooler. You can call it snake oil, or just be to hard headed to believe somebody who knows, personally I don't care. Lucas works, and no it's nothing like STP oil treatment.

Added 12 oz to fresh Mobil 1. Engine clatter gone....engine runs cooler...smoother...and maybe more efficiently. We'll see in 3,000 miles.

Totally agree. I will add... stp does have a nice additive package. Lucas has ZERO additives. Bad, bad, bad, stuff....

Why would you not trust your motor oil it has all the additives built in. It is just snake oil.

I had 1989 honda civic, bought it with just under 30K on it in 1994. When the miles were at 190K on it, it started to use a little oil, so I used to put a few squirts of the LOS in the crank case ( a few oz, is all) to keep it at full on the stick. Always ran dino 10-30 Castrol in it and changed it at 3K intervals. The LOS seemed to keep oil consumption down so that I did not use it much maybe 1/2 bottle at most over a year. Sold the car with 215K on it, and it is still running very well.

I see no reason to run LOS in my 13K mile motor in my RKC, as I think M-1 oil is doing it's job well enough and I use the SCAVENGER oil change each time when changing the oil on it.
