I'm sure everyone will tell you that its fine, but its really not. You absolutely need a projector lens to run HIDs properly, ideally one that was designed for HIDs (some halogen projectors do just fine with HIDs, some do not).

Do this search in the CAR world, and you will find expert after expert after expert saying the exact same thing: Illegal and bad for oncoming drivers.
So true. I had HID's on my other bikes (from DDM Tuning) and they really lit up the night and did not blind on coming vehicles but their reach is the same as the stock bulbs due to the headlight reflector. That's why they put HID bulbs in projector housings to extend the coverage as well as brighten it up.
On my Road King I opted for another approach, LED lighting which is actually better than my HID conversions as I can see farther and wider since that's how they were designed. Check out HD's video on their LED lighting. Hope this helps.

I got mine from DDM about 2 years ago. Works great. I think it was under 50 bucks. Can be scene day & night.

Several years ago, I went with HD HID install. Paid though the nose for it. Fairly happy with it. But more interested in Trucklite Phase7, LED soon to be released.

Wanted to use HID's in passing lamps too, but the Trucklite passing lamps won out on that one, mostly due to no need to account for ballasts for HID's and they draw less power than filament bulbs of comparable wattage/luminous out put.

Personally I'd get the Truck-Lite Ph7 LED headlight and passing lives. To each their own. Check this site out for the HID bulbs.
