My friend has a 2007 Street Glide with an engine that bounces around like it's trying to come out of the frame. The rear cylinder exhaust bracket and header pipe is broken so we figure the front motor mount is shot. There is about 1/2" space between the washer and the bottom of the rubber.
Will someone please give me a basic run-down on the correct procedure for removing and replacing the front motor mount?
If I might chime in here. I would replace at least both fronts to even the field and all if the wallet has the girth. Replacing one will most likely result in big vibes.
Replace what needs replacing > loosen all mount fasteners to just under snug > start > 1st gear roll out soft up the block a bit, turn around, and shift to 2nd ease the clutch in and roll stop the bike with the motor off > torque all fasteners to specs. This procedure will self center the motor and result in the least amount of engine vibration.
There is only 1 front motor mount on a 2007 I believe. It's the one you've already found.
If the plate attached to the motor is not touching the rubber, ( you can see the sleeve supporting it,) the mount is still probably good, When it touches the rubber, it has failed.
FYI - My 2003 service manual does not reference replacement of the motor mount. I figured it out by searching this site for past posts. Not that difficult to do.
