Wow, let the assumptions fly! I live where there is no helmet law, if it were to come up for a vote, I would vote against it, if it passed then I would comply with the law, same as I do now.
Laws are made because someone, somewhere is going to make money off of it. .
You mean like seat belts and speed limits? Patently false in many cases.

I am not arguing the safety of helmets, I am arguing the right to make a decision without it be legislated upon me. If all of you "pro helmet" advocates are so sincere in your convictions, how many of you wear only a full face helmet? The superior protection of a full face over a half or 3/4 helmet is well documented. If your choice is all about the safety of a helmet then the clear cut choice in head gear should be a full face and only a full face.
FWIW...... If or when the state of IL mandates a helmet law then I will wear one. It will only be a Snell approved full face variety. If you're going to do something, why do it half helmeted aka...half a$$ed.
Both died of head trauma or internal injuries? Just clarifying the point, not judging.
My statement showed the idiocy of thinking of "no helmet so my demise is assured."
And yes, a FF, Snell approved 100% of the time, no exceptions. Just like my seatbelt.
This is a bold statement. If they pass a law, of course you'll wear one. You'd get ticketed quite often if you didnt.
My point was that, at this time in IL, I am allowed to make a choice and that choice is to not wear a helmet.
Many of the pro helmet nannies on here that are of the opinion that I, and everyone else, should be denied that choice and wear one anyway themselves ride around wearing a half, 3/4. or some variation of an open face helmet. If they are so flippin' concerned about safety, that's a tad bit hypocritical.

I just don't see where you draw the line...it was already said but obviously there's a huge difference between a full face Snell and my half helmet, even though it's DOT. I don't care what you say, if i go down at 80 mph and get tagged by a car on the freeway it really doesn't matter what kind of plastic is on my head, im still getting torn in half.
I agree with the freedom of choice, we're required to wear something on our head that has the letters D-O-T so that's what happens. You get some full facers, some half helmets, 3/4 or beanie with a sticker. I think the law is silly and I agree that this might be one of the laws that is aimed at gaining income. I'm sure helmet sales flew up as soon as this law went out...
And the whole "i don't want to pay for your life support" argument...
I don't see how we can say life support consists of people wearing novelty helmets. What about the football injuries, the painters falling off of roofs, kids drowning in pools etc. Should we only be able to play football in astro jumps? Can we only paint while wearing rock climbing gear? Should we only be able to swim if scuba gear is present?
I think laws that protect OTHERS are good (speed limits for example) but laws protecting yourself physically should be left to our best judgement.

One died of closed head trauma. The other had 3 fractured vertebrae in his neck and was never going to walk again. I have a friend still in the hospital from a wreck a couple weeks ago (cage pulled out in front of him, no helmet) and he sustained some severe fractures and may not ever have the use of his right arm but he's alive. I am one of those of the opinion that when the good Lord decides it's your time, it's your time. All of your past clean living, over indulgence, bad vices, or any other life choices (helmet or no helmet) make no difference.
