Default new 103 ticking ?

i have an '11 streetglide 103....it has developed a ticking noisse coming from the drive train....i took it in and my dealership has acknoledged that they hear the same noise...after 2 weeks of having it in the shop....Harley gave them permission finally to dig in and see what they see.....the only thing they found was a lifter was scored leaving only a wear mark on the cam....i don't believe thats what was making the ticking sound....this isn't just a normal ticking sound that comes with a harley....i've had my share of bikes....not just the nature of having a harley....the bike didn't sound like this when i bought it.....and the new ones don't sound like this.....Harley is willing to change the lifters but not the cams....I told my dealer to cut me a deal on the cams for an upgrade to sc 255's and i would put them in since i didn't want the stock ones in with the wear marks...the did...and im going with them.....at no labor charge to me.....just the discounted price of the new cams.....any thoughts and how much of an increase of HP can i expect from the new cams....will i be able to tell a difference...???

Do you have a Stage 1 upgrade? If not, I wouldn't expect much of an increase.

If the scratch is a radial scratch (like a barber pole around the contacting face) this will cause the lifter to try and screw itself sideways. This could definitely create a heck of a noise. You are right to replace the cam under these circumstances even if this turns out not to be the source of your noise. BTW, FWIW I prefer the 26H's I've got to the 255's

I have heard that the 204 cams will probably work better for your application. I'm thinking of doing the same thing since I developed a lifter noise in mine. I can not recall why, it was something to do with a faster opening profile on the cam, I can let you know if you are still interested.

i think i'll be happy with the se 255's.....im just curious of the increase in power and tourque...but more importantly....i was hoping someone had some thoughts on the ticking sound......im more concerned that im going to get the bike back and that damn ticking noise will still be there.....lol

I wouldn't expect a big peak-HP gain with the 255's, but that isn't their design goal. With these you may not want to rev past 4000 rpm, as they will give a very nice low-end and midrange boost that IMO is very useful in a bagger. I have them in my 96" motor and I'm very happy with the results for my kind of riding. Will you be able to tell a difference? If installed and tuned properly I can confidently answer "yes."

If you install them the map or tune will need to be changed, so a tuner is in your future if you don't already have one. I wouldn't waste my money on the HD Stage II "download," as it won't do much and will cost $150. For advise on tuners call Fuel Moto, as there are a number of options available.
