I put in my first modification today, an adjustable backrest.
Well, it went slow but surely, and at the final step it says to move the seat forward to place the seat protector, which it did just fine, then move it back, again which it did. Well now it's all the way back and kinda stuck.
Like the cable is attached but free floating, no resistance to it.
Like the little hydraulic cylinder is locked up.
Anyway, not sure how to troubleshoot this.
any ideas or suggestions?
thanks ahead of time
anthony
Do you have the seat on the bike? If you do I would take it off and put the backrest in the holder/adjuster without the seat on. It would be easier to see the mechanisms without the seat in the way.
Stand next to your bike on the kickstand side by the handlebars looking at the backrest, and with your left hand, reach into the hole the backrest is coming out of, and release the seat. It is just a spring loaded pawl that keeps it in place. Pull the backrest out with your right hand.
Yeah there is an adjustment and I dont think its in the instructions, I had to mess with mine when I put it on. look where the cable attaches at the end of the gas cylinder, it attaches to a lever that depresses the button that allows the cylinder to move. there is a nut on the cylinder rod that allows the adjustment of the releasing head assembly, if memory serves me I had to disconnect the cylinder to make the adjustment. loosening the jam nut and tightening the release housing (screw the the housing one turn further onto the rod) will give you more lever, if that makes sense. Mess with it, if you need help, holler.
P.S.
You may only need 1/2 turn, the circuit is very sensitive. In that case you will have to unbolt the top side and roll the cylinder over 180 degrees.
Good day,
thanks for the advice.
I actually ran it down to my local HD shop. Talked with the service manager. He came outside, looked at the bike, went back in, got some tools and started working on it right there. Found the problem. A simple fix, the handle under the heat shield was not sitting correctly, and the whole mechanism was moving instead of just the wire.
Anyway, quick fix and it was and has been just fine since then.
no charge or anything.
