Default I need a Engine

Hey guys I do not know if any of you read my last post. I have a 2006 Street Glide. I had some internal engine problems. I took it to my local HD dealer and they opened it up and it turns out the inner cam bearings failed. I was quoted $2,800 to pull the engine and split the cases and install new cams, bearings and all the new oil pump and tensioner updates. They also quoted me $4,200 for a installed Harley Reman engine. My question is should I have the engine repaired and updated? The engine has 39K on it. Do any of you know a goos place to obtain a new or low mileage engine at a better price? I also would like to know if I can have a 96CI motor installed on my bike? Thanks for your help.
Mike,

I would have the engine you have done up, and while they have the cases split have the crank sent away , and have it trued ,and welded.
My cases were too trashed to use or I would have done that, they will say you don't need the crank done, but if you are going to keep it , I would spend the money.

Their are a lot of 96" motors floating around for sale ever since harley came out with the 120R. Keep your eyes pealed and you can find them for around $1600-$2000. Keep in mind while talking price with sellers that these motors cannot be used in choppers or custom bikes without the trans since it has the unique passageway between the engine and trans for the oil supply and return. If they want to use it in a custom application, they would need an adapter plate to do it. IMO because of this, they are worth less than an old evo or early twin cam. Really the only use for them is what you need it for....Replacement of a bad motor.

Thank you for the info. Where would be a good place in your opinion to start th search for such a motor? Also will a b103 work on my bike?

I have an 06 88" motor with 13k miles I am getting ready to take out I would be willing to sell. I am getting a 131" motor in its place. PM me if you would want something like that.

I put a S&S Cycles 111 inch in mine.. Caught it on sale... Been very happy with it... It should be easy to find a low mileage twin cam on ebay... Before I would let harley re manufacture my old engine I would have a S&S dealer do the job..
